An educational and archival project for Arabic music

About us

Musicatea is an independent educational project founded by Jawad Abu Younis in 2026. It aims to organize Arabic music material in a clear way for students, performers, and teachers. The project is based on educational and musical experience in oud teaching, school ensembles, notation reading, maqamat, and rhythms.

Why the project began

The idea for Musicatea came from a personal and professional need. While studying music, access to reliable and organized Arabic sheet music was difficult; many materials were either paid, not clear enough, or scattered across different places. With academic progress, another need appeared: a clear source that brings together theory, documentation, and sheet music in a practical way for students, performers, and teachers.

About the founder

Jawad Abu Younis holds a master’s degree in Arabic music from the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, specializing in oud performance. He also holds a teaching license for musical ensembles and works in music education from kindergarten through ninth grade, alongside school ensemble work, instrument teaching, and group music practice.

Alongside teaching, the site founder writes, transcribes, and formats Arabic music sheets for the site, adding educational information that helps students understand a piece through maqam, rhythm, performer, composer, and general context.

What Musicatea offers

The site offers a sheet music library aimed mainly at performers and music students at the intermediate level and above, with plans to add simpler beginner material later. It also provides educational pages about maqamat and rhythms for musicians or music students who want to understand Arabic theory in a direct and organized way.

The history pages on Musicatea provide concise and clear information about eras of Arabic music and about artists, composers, and figures who influenced the development of this field. The learning page is dedicated to beginners and aims to build a gradual entry point into the basics of Arabic music.

Editorial approach

  • Explain concepts in clear educational language.
  • Separate confirmed information from educational or analytical notes.
  • Connect theory with listening and practical examples.
  • Update material when better sources or examples become available.
  • Respect copyright and avoid presenting protected material as site-owned content.

Sheet music library

Most sheets published in the Musicatea library are written and formatted by the site’s founder, and are not simply files collected from the internet. In a few cases, a sheet is based on an original source that is mentioned inside the PDF itself, with cleanup, formatting, and additional educational information added when needed.

Each sheet is organized with study and search information, such as title, performer, composer, maqam, rhythm, and a PDF link. The goal of the library is to make clear and organized Arabic music material easier to access, helping performers and students learn, practice, and compare repertoire.

Site sections

  • A browsable and downloadable Arabic sheet music library.
  • Guides to Arabic maqamat and Middle Eastern rhythms.
  • Concise documentation of Arabic music eras and figures.
  • A gradual learning path for beginners.

Melodies Ensemble

Musicatea is also connected to Melodies Ensemble, an educational music project within the Gefen framework of the Israeli Ministry of Education. The project works with students in different school settings and aims to help students play and perform together in musical ensembles that participate in school and educational events.
