Why the project started
Musicatea grew out of a personal and professional need. As a music student, finding reliable and organized Arabic sheet music was often difficult: many materials were paid, low quality, or scattered across unrelated places. Later, as an academic music student, the need became wider: a clear source that brings together theory, documentation, and notation in a practical way for students, performers, and teachers.
About the founder
Jawad Abu Younis holds a master’s degree in Arabic music from the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, specializing in oud performance. He also holds a teaching license for musical ensembles, and works in music education from kindergarten through ninth grade, including school ensembles, instrumental teaching, and group performance.
Alongside teaching, the founder writes, transcribes, edits, and formats Arabic music sheets for the site, adding educational information that helps students understand each work through its maqam, rhythm, performer, composer, and musical context.
What Musicatea offers
The site provides a sheet music library mainly intended for performers and intermediate-to-advanced music students, with beginner-friendly sheets planned for the future. It also includes educational pages about Arabic maqamat and rhythms for musicians and music students who want to understand Arabic music theory in a direct and organized way.
The history pages offer concise and clear information about eras of Arabic music, as well as artists, composers, and figures who shaped the development of the field. The learning section is designed for beginners and aims to build a gradual entry point into the basics of Arabic music.
Editorial approach
- Explain concepts in clear educational language.
- Separate confirmed information from educational or analytical notes.
- Connect theory with listening and practical examples.
- Update material when better sources or examples become available.
- Respect copyright and avoid presenting protected material as site-owned content.
Sheet music library
Most sheets published in the Musicatea library are written and formatted by the site’s founder, and are not simply files collected from the internet. In a few cases, a sheet is based on an original source that is mentioned inside the PDF itself, with cleanup, formatting, and additional educational information added when needed.
Each sheet is organized with study and search information, such as title, performer, composer, maqam, rhythm, and a PDF link. The goal of the library is to make clear and organized Arabic music material easier to access, helping performers and students learn, practice, and compare repertoire.
