Context and Origin
Wahda wa Noss is an Arabic 4/4 rhythm, but modern references define it more precisely as a syncopated form of Maqsum rather than as something derived from Wahda itself despite the name. Its main structural difference is that the first Tek arrives about a sixteenth-note later than it does in Maqsum, and that delay creates its distinctive syncopated feel. It should therefore not be understood vaguely as something halfway between Wahda and Maqsum, but as being structurally closer to Maqsum with a rhythmic delay that gives it greater flexibility and drive. References also note that it exchanges smoothly in performance with both Maqsum and Baladi.
Meter and Use
Wahda w Noss is used as a rhythmic template for feeling the 4/4 meter. Start from the first Dum, then connect the Taks and rests to the movement of the melody or song.
